For two reasons really:

But seriously, information security has been likened to the layers of an onion, each layer protecting the layer within, peel off a layer and there should be another layer and then another.  Some of this is IT (geek stuff) and some is procedural (don't give your password to the bloke in the pub)

Traditionally we have been used to sitting in a data centre behind cleverly configured firewalls and monitoring all the inbound and outbound traffic (occasionally shouting at a user or two).  Cloud computing changes all of that, the whole domain is held in the cloud and connectivity and sharing is encouraged.  Now, sharing is all very well provided you know who you are sharing with and that's where we come in.
